New Window Tint Aftercare: What to Expect in the First Weeks

The first days and weeks after tint is installed.

October 2026 · By the Divine Detailers team

Fresh tint needs a little time to cure. Knowing what to expect helps you avoid damage and worry.

Do not roll the windows down at first

  • Leave the windows up for several days, often three to five, so the film can bond to the glass. Your installer will tell you the right time for your film and the weather.
  • Rolling windows down too soon can catch the edge of the film and peel it.

What is normal

  • Small haze, droplets or tiny bubbles: moisture is trapped under the film and evaporates as it cures. In Florida's heat, this usually clears in days to a couple of weeks.
  • A slightly cloudy look when the glass is wet or after a rainy day.

What is not normal

  • Large bubbles that do not shrink, or edges that lift or peel.
  • Dirt or hair under the film that is still there after the curing period.

If you see these, contact your installer. A reputable shop will check it and handle it under their warranty.

Cleaning

  • Wait about a week or two before the first cleaning.
  • Use an ammonia-free glass cleaner and a soft microfiber cloth. Ammonia can damage some films.
  • Do not scrape or use razor blades on the inside of tinted glass.

Other things to avoid

  • Sticking suction cups, stickers or tape on the film for the first weeks.
  • Letting seat belt buckles and objects bang against the glass edges.

Rear window note

The rear window has defroster lines. Clean it gently in the direction of the lines, and avoid scraping, so the lines and the film stay intact.

A little patience at the start gives you a clear, long-lasting result.
