Not all tint is the same. The film type affects heat rejection, clarity, how long it lasts and what it costs. These are the main types.
Dyed film
- The most basic and lowest cost. Dye in the film absorbs sunlight and darkens the glass.
- It improves privacy and reduces glare, but it rejects less heat.
- Over many years, the dye can fade or turn purple in strong sun.
Metalized film
- Contains tiny metal particles that reflect heat.
- It is durable and rejects heat well, but the metal can interfere with phone, GPS and radio signals, and gives a shinier look.
Carbon film
- Uses carbon particles instead of metal, so there is no signal interference.
- Gives a matte, even look that does not fade like dye.
- A good middle choice for heat rejection and price.
Ceramic film
- Uses non-metallic ceramic particles that block infrared heat very effectively, even in lighter shades.
- Offers high clarity, strong UV blocking and no signal interference.
- Usually the highest price and the best performer, which suits Miami's sun.
What to compare
- Heat rejection: ask for the total solar energy rejected figure.
- UV blocking: good films block almost all UV.
- Clarity: better films have less haze.
- Warranty: manufacturers often back film against fading, bubbling and peeling. Ask what is covered and who handles claims.
Which to pick
If budget is the priority, dyed film is the entry point. If you want strong heat control and the longest-lasting result, ceramic is the usual choice. Carbon sits in between. A professional can show you samples and match the film to your vehicle and local law.
